Making Lemonade

Anyone else feel like 2020 is the year of the lemon? As you may know, a substandard or defective product - like a car - is called a lemon. So yes, this year has been tough, and even when we thought we have finally hit rock bottom, somehow things still seem to get worse. Friday’s news of the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg brought many of us to our knees. Wildfires run rampant in California, communities in the South are recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Sally, racial injustices rage across the country, and the pandemic continues. On a personal level, sadly each day seems to bring news of someone in my community falling ill or passing away.

Lemons also symbolize a turning towards hope, optimism, and resilience. When life gives us lemons, we can make lemonade! So on this Monday, as we enter the new season of fall and the final quarter of 2020, I’m toasting to finding the silver linings of this crazy year and searching for a recipe for the sweetest lemonade. Who’s with me?
